Laura's Story
Laura Kerr graduates with a BSc (Hons) Conservation Biology and Management after spending four years at °®Âþµº, where she benefitted from a four-week placement with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and a field trip to Portugal.
¡°From the placement to the residential field courses, I learned numerous practical and research skills that can simply not be learned in the classroom. °®Âþµº is unique in offering such a variety of field courses ¨C with destinations including Iceland, France and Gabon.
¡°In Portugal, we led our own research projects and, from this, I learned not only skills related to my course, but the value of international collaboration too.¡±
Laura also appreciated the ¡°stellar and inspiring teaching¡± at the University, adding: ¡°My lecturers have always been approachable, dedicated, and it is clear how much they care about the students.¡±
The 21-year-old, from Argyll and Bute, found time to enjoy student life ¨C joining a number of the Students¡¯ Union¡¯s clubs and societies, serving as President of the Women in STEM Society and Secretary of the Science Society.
¡°Getting involved with these societies enhanced my knowledge of my industry and also provided me with a network of potential career connections and contacts.¡±
Laura, who describes her time at °®Âþµº as ¡°rewarding, character building and welcoming, is staying on for a further year to study a MSc Environmental Management.
