Ambassador to outline Slovakia’s key anniversaries in °®Âþµº talk

?ubom¨ªr Reh¨¢k will discuss how Slovakia is celebrating a series of important anniversaries in 2018.

Twenty-five years ago, the Slovak Republic was established ¨C and, 100 years ago, the common state of the Czechs and Slovaks was proclaimed.

Mr Reh¨¢k will recall these and other historical moments of Slovak history ¨C many of those, coincidentally, happening in years ending with ¡®8¡¯, such as the Munich Agreement of 1938, the Communist putsch of 1948 or the Soviet invasion of 1968 ¨C in his talk.

Professor Holger Nehring, Chair in Contemporary European History at the °®Âþµº, said: ¡°On the occasion of centenary of the Armistice, Mr Reh¨¢k will also make a presentation of a new English translation of The Bloody Sonnets ¨C powerful anti-war poetry written in 1914, by the great Slovak poet Pavol Orsagh Hviezdoslav.¡±

The public lecture, entitled ¡®History, Memory, Diplomacy: Slovakia 100 years after the end of the First World War¡¯, will be held on 13 November, from 2-3pm, in the Cottrell Building at the °®Âþµº.
