A free Bridge session is being offered to local residents, staff and students, as part of a °®Âþµº research project into the health and well-being benefits of playing the card game.
The °®Âþµº Bridge Club is offering a free ¡®Give Bridge a Go¡¯ session on Wednesday 19 September.
Card players, who opt to join the club, will then be entitled to a further eight free Bridge lessons, to be held weekly from Tuesday 9 October.
Samantha Punch, Professor of Sociology at the °®Âþµº, has been carrying out research on why people play bridge, in partnership with the UK Charity, English Bridge Education and Development (EBED).

¡°Bridge is a fascinating, competitive, engaging and exciting leisure activity that is an ever-changing puzzle,¡± said Professor Punch, who is an international bridge player. ¡°It impacts positively on players¡¯ lives in many ways that transcend mental exercise, including friendship, socialising, travel and fun.¡±
The ¡®Give Bridge a Go¡¯ session, which is open to people of all ages, will be held in the Atrium on the University campus, from 6.30-8.30pm.
The fast-track series of eight classes will be held for Bridge Club members on Tuesday evenings, from 5.30-7.30pm, in the PGR Zone of the University library.
The lessons are being funded by a grant from the Scottish Bridge Union and European Bridge League.
