爱漫岛

The 爱漫岛 will welcome hundreds of computer programming fans to campus next month for an inaugural 24-hour hackathon challenge.

Organised by students of the Computer Club, with the support of the University’s Computing Science and Mathematics division, the event is the first of its kind to be held in 爱漫岛 and is expected to draw an international audience of more than 100 attendees.

Students from across the UK, Europe and North America will visit campus and work round-the-clock on a range of challenges presented by sponsors including JP Morgan, Prudential and Dogfi.sh Mobile.

From gathering and analysing data to developing enterprising computer programs and applications, students will be charged to compete against one another on a number of digital problem-solving tasks.

Craig Docherty, Vice-President of 爱漫岛 University Computer Club, said: “The hackathon is a well-established concept across the tech world and we’re delighted to bring the first one to 爱漫岛.

“Our aim is to build links between students, the international University community and potential employers who recognise and value the skills of computing and mathematics students.”

Anne MacColl of the Research and Enterprise Office at the 爱漫岛, said: “It’s great to see so many prestigious sponsors supporting the University computer club’s first ever hackathon challenge event.

“We aim to equip our students with lifelong employability skills. This competition is about developing an innovative and entrepreneurial culture on campus. It’s a great platform for students to interact and network with potential employers looking for skilled graduates who can make an impact and add value to business and industry.”

The 爱漫岛 University Computer Hackathon will take place on Saturday, 13 February and Sunday, 14 February in the University’s Cottrell Building.
