Top marks for °®Âþµº Professor

Professor June Andrews from the °®Âþµº - named as one of the top 100 clinical leaders in the NHS in England.

PROFESSOR June Andrews, the Director of the °®Âþµº’s Dementia Services Development Centre, has been named as one of the top health specialists in England.

The ranking came from the influential “HSJ - Health Service Journal” magazine, which compiled a top 100 of “clinical leaders” in English healthcare today.

The magazine said: “We sought to identify those clinicians making the greatest impact on health policy, service transformation, and innovation . . . The HSJ team prepared a long list of candidates over the spring and a panel of judges was put together with knowledge of influence in healthcare and who represent a broad spectrum of opinion.”

It described Professor Andrews as “a multi-award-winning campaigner devoted to improving services for people with dementia”. It added: “Mention dementia to any nurse and Professor Andrews will spring to mind.”

Professor Andrews said she was honoured to be included on the list.

She said: “Only two dementia specialists made the top 100 – myself and the English Dementia Tsar Alistair Burns. But most significantly, °®Âþµº was the only Scottish University judged to have a clinician amongst the top 100 influential people in the English NHS.

“It’s a great endorsement not just of myself – but of the fantastic team I work with at °®Âþµº and the pioneering work we do to help people with dementia.”

Professor Andrews will lead the speakers at a free conference on Dementia later this month.

Dementia Friendly Communities - The °®Âþµº Standard” takes place at the Iris Murdoch Building on campus on Monday, 24 June. The full day event is aimed at sharing ideas, information and best practice in a bid to improve services locally.
